Link to write up as a PDF: New Year, New Aspiration
Along with a cheerful welcome for the New Year, our endearing members shared a myriad of aspirations: losing some kilos, being a good papa, getting married, going on adventure track, learn singing, etc..
Bravo to first timers – Sergeant at Arms Elizabeth Tang and Toastmaster of the Evening, Nadiya Ryshchuk for their display of poise and confidence through the entire evening.
Similar kudos to Club President May Teo for her perfect grace in delivering her first 2017 opening speech. A speech inviting us to think about the biggest challenge in our life and strive to block off negative obstacles as we start a new year afresh.
Advanced Club President Ho Chiu Lin gave a candid presentation about learning and leadership opportunities outside home club in Going Beyond Our Club from the Successful Club Series.
We had 4 speakers for prepared speeches to trumpet in the first chapter meeting of 2017:
Joan Seah – Advanced Project on The Oratorical Speech from The Interpretive Reading- an interpretation of Charles Munger’s 2016 Law Commencement Speech at USC.
Christophe Hamchin – Advanced Project Uplifting The Spirit from Specialty Speeches – Their Future Is Now. Christophe talked about the needs to support a children’s curiosity now in nurturing their creativity for the jobs of the future.
Texas Hong – Project 1 Ice Breaker – Who am I? What I do? What I love to do? Let me tell you what I love about the maiden speech by this humble guy. His conclusion ’Look into the past with nostalgia; look at the present with appreciation and look at the future with hope.’ Great Job, Texas – 1st speech and the Best Speaker!
Alpha Khu – Project 3 Get To The Point. Not all practices are fair. Play fair anyway. An insightful speech on fair learning and fair treatment at workplace.
Once again our heartfelt gratitude to all evaluators for their sincere and constructive feedback.
Thank you Liu Yuchun, Tay Yiang Ping, Teo Chai Guan and Mahima.
Best Evaluator award went to Yuchun- presented in her mother-in-law’s elegant pyjamas.
Raucous laughter filled the mini theatre during the fun Table TopicsTM segment by Steven Yuen.
Steven helped to spread festivity joy by asking audience to talk about household objects found during his spring cleaning job. Some items were cooking pan, travel brochures, old TV manual, magnets and cable & wire (which Yian Tay found an excellent use for her dog’s poo).
Best Table Topics Speaker was Caroline Lim who would surely throw away her worn out bath mats without second thoughts.
