FOR SKY MEDIA TOASTMASTERS CLUB
by Kris Tay ATM-B CL
The last meeting
30th September 2004 was the last day we met at the office of Sky Media. We had to move out because Sky Media had decided to focus their attention in China and scale down their Singapore operations. This brought an end to our relationship with Sky Media.
For the month of October 2004, we had no "home". Thanks to Yiang Ping and James, we touched base with the Toa Payoh Central CC. However, we made no headway in getting to the CCMC (ie. the Management Committee).
Help is on its way
With the help of Ong Sin Tiong, another Toastmaster, we met Mr Wong from Toa Payoh Resident's Committee. He was enthusiastic and he helped us tremendously in talking to the key people, namely, Mr Peter Tey and Mr Goh in the CCMC.
We persevered in pursuing Mr Peter Tey and the break came on 1st November 2004. I called Mr Tey and requested for a 15-min presentation so that the CCMC would be introduced to Toastmasters and our Club. By God's grace, the meeting went very well.
Give and you shall receive
On 4 November 2004, both Chai Tun and I were the Masters of Ceremony for the PCF Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony. Imagine, I had to speak in Mandarin - a feat that was impossible but somehow we "survived". At the end of the event, Mr Goh from the CCMC informed us that they have decided to adopt us as part of the CCMC's activities.
NOW, we have a permanent home - the mini theatrette. Our name has been changed to TOA PAYOH CENTRAL CC TOASTMASTERS CLUB. Going forward, we have to plan for the remaking of our Club and to ensure that we contribute towards the Community Club.
I'm excited with the prospects and the challenges ahead! I know that all the
members are behind me and together we will craft our destiny!
