Next SpeechCraft - July 2007

3-Day Speechcraft Workshop

by Fawziah Mattar

RSVP Gavel Club in conjuction with Skymedia Toastmasters Club held a 3-day workshop spread over three weeks from 30 October till 10 November.

It was a workshop filled with techniques on crafting speeches, different ways to open and close speeches, evaluation tips as well as on the spot practice of speeches.

Some twenty participants and guidance of several mentors from our sponsor's Club, Skymedia, made the sessions enjoyable.

It was indeed most beneficial for all attendees. They have gained more confidence in public speaking and greater use of the English Language.

Hear what our participants have to say ...

The three speechcraft sessions held at RSVP last year were an eye-opener to me.
It was the first time I came across such a workshop.

The talks given by the presenters on registers, emphasis on different words in a sentence to show the change in meaning, figures of speech and the use of appropriate verbs, adjectives and adverbs helped us to improve in our future projects.

I particular enjoyed the hands-on exercise on registers. I would like to attend future speechcraft sessions in order to learn more.

I'm the pretty lady (thick skin lah) sitting at the front.... 5th from the left and also 5th from the right but infront of Club Mentor Albert.

1st day: Public Spaeking for every one by Albert Lim - very informative Ice Breaker by James Tan. He really broke the ice and made every one opened their mouths. We laughed a lot. Most of the 1st timers had forgetten to be nervous. Nancy's verbs and adverbs sent me back to school to refresh my English.

2nd day: Chai Tun's "Preparing Impromtu Speech" showed us how to speak on our feet and fast. My brain freezed Good thing he missed me. Language Registers by Janet -with all the role plays. Every one -trainer/trainee participated and enjoyed and laughed - almost rolled onto the floor I took part to present P2 speech Given not much time to prepare but I've a trainer to guide me and I finished my speech with flying colours.

3rd day: I gained a lot of tips from the video on : "Effective Evaluation" and "World Champion Speech". Thank you * Sky Media TMC * and every one involved.
